The catalogue was produced on the occasion of the exhibition entitled The Amatis DNA. A Dynasty of Stringed Instrument Makers in Cremona. It is divided into two sections. The first section is composed of four essays concerning the music and musicians of the 17th century in Cremona, the violinmakers of Amatis family, their most important construction characteristics and the analysis carried out on the Stauffer viola and Hammerle violin . The second section deals with each of the 24 instruments displayed during the Amati exhibition, and their dimensions are fully described in the comparative schedules at the end of the volume.
