Cremona Strings Collection – A. Stradivari Violoncello Stauffer ex Cristiani 1700

Consorzio Liutai Antonio Stradivari Cremona Fondazione Antonio Stradivari Cremona – La Triennale

The stringed instruments owned by Cremona Municipal Council undoubtedly represent a focal point among worldwide collections of items produced by the classical Cremonese masters. This both because of the quality of the instruments displayed and because all the great families of local violin makers are represented, although this aspect is not yet complete. Equally important is the fact that the instruments are in Cremona, the instruments are in Cremona, the recognized capital of violin making. The instrument rightly chosen for the first volume was the splendid cello by Antonio Stradivari, one of the rarest and most valuable items in the collection, whose purchase reflects the merit and far-sightedness of the Fondazione Stauffer. (Although important publications on this collection have been produced over the years, there was a need for a detailed study of each instrument, with professional iconography, to document its features with a wealth of details and technical specifics for the specialists.)
